Salem County Academy of Graphic Design in Multi Media Technology I at PMHS: Grade Level: 9 and 10-12
Prerequisite: Acceptance into the program by the Salem County Career Academy

This academy is located in a nationally accredited facility containing desktop publishing and image editing computer stations, industry standard software, a Graphic Design Center and a complete printing and binding and finishing section. The curriculum is designed for highly motivated students who are interested in pursuing careers and further education in Multi-Media Design, Graphic Design and Commercial Graphic Design. The course covers the basic fundamentals of design, typography, and the many ways to print and present work. Students must exhibit excellent on-the-job work ethics including a conscientious attitude and self motivation.
Students are required to develop and maintain a portfolio of their work. Students will gain basic knowledge of graphic communication and will develop skills using traditional techniques and professional software. Some student projects will include but not limited to stationery, note pads, poster design, record package design, and book illustration. In addition, students will develop skills in photography, offset lithography, screen printing and pre-press operations.
Also, two hours per month is designated for specialized software training.
Salem County Academy of Graphic Design in Multi Media Technology II at PMHS: Grade Level: 10 and 11-12
Prerequisite: a. Acceptance into the program by the Salem County Career Academy b. A minimum final average of 78% in GMT I

This academy is located in a nationally accredited facility containing layout and image editing computer stations, industry standard software, a Graphic Design Center and a complete printing and binding and finishing section. The curriculum is designed for highly motivated students who are interested in pursuing careers and further education in Multi-Media Design, graphic design and Commercial Graphic Design. Emphasis is placed upon computer generated applications and software in the graphic arts field. The course covers one year of study. Students must exhibit excellent on-the-job work ethics including a conscientious attitude and self motivation. Students are required to develop and maintain a portfolio of their work. This portfolio may be used for college entrance requirements or potential job employment. Student projects will include, but not limited to, consumer package design, record package design, political poster design, quarter to full page advertisements, the study of typography, slide presentations, personal business cards, and book jacket design advanced page layout. Students will also develop skills and knowledge in continuous tone photography and digital imaging by using 35 mm camera and a digital camera. Students will also develop skills in offset lithography and screen printing. Also, two hours per month is designated for specialized software training.
Salem County Academy of Graphic Design in Multimedia Technology III at PMHS: Grade Level: 11-12
Prerequisite: a. Acceptance into the program by the Salem County Career Academy b. A minimum final average of 78% in GMT II
Duration: 200 minutes/week

Located in a nationally accredited facility containing desktop publishing computer stations, advanced software and a graphic design center. This course is designed for highly motivated students who are interested in pursuing careers and further education in multimedia design, desktop publishing, photography and/or video production. Emphasis is placed upon the photographic image produced by 35 mm camera, digitally or by video means. This course covers one year of study. Students must exhibit excellent on-the-job work ethics including a conscientious attitude and self-motivation. Students are required to develop and maintain a professional portfolio and an end of the year gallery display of their work. This portfolio may be used for college entrance requirements or potential job employment. Student projects will include but not limited to magazine and catalog page layout design, photographic essays, promotional sales videos and an instructional or music video. In addition, multicolor printing and advanced pre-press skills are an important part of this school year.
Salem County Academy of Graphic Design in Multimedia Technology IV at PMHS:
Grade Level: 12
Prerequisite: a. Acceptance into the program by the Salem County Career Academy b. A minimum final average of 78% in GMT III

Located in a national accredited facility, containing desktop publishing and image editing computer stations, advanced software and a Graphic Design Center. This curriculum is designed for highly motivated students who may be interested in pursuing careers and further education in multi-media design, commercial graphic design, photography, video production, or character animation. Students must exhibit excellent on-the-job work ethics including a conscience attitude and self motivation.
GMT IV is one year of study covering the following courses:
Course 1—Graphic Design Techniques—GMT IV
This course focuses on the tools, techniques, procedures, and presentations to produce professional graphic design. Further exploration in principals of design and layout, technique, typography and production emphasizing professional procedure is a core component. Creativity is encouraged through artistic applications as the core to all graphic designs resulting in the development of a professional portfolio.
Course 2—Digital Page and Media Graphics—GMT IV
This course explores making pages for both print and media environments. Proper manipulation of the appropriate software tools, terminology and theory of page layout and conceptual interpretation of digital programs is emphasized. Development of an understanding of the interfaces and differences between our environment and the products produced for them. Multiple page documents, media projects, publishing techniques, and typography incorporation are emphasized through technical proficiency and aesthetic judgments.

Graphic Media Technology Program AND Salem County Community College
Salem Community College courses are offered by invitation only to those students who meet the established criteria. Interested students must complete a Salem Community College admissions application/registration form. Criteria is based on students excellent attendance record, and must possess a GMT average of 78% and a overall GPA of 78% or better at the conclusion of student’s freshman, sophomore and junior year. Invited students must exhibit time management skills in order to coordinate the high expectations and demands of coordinating both high school and college academic requirements.
