What counts toward clinical hours?
▼ View details
Students should expect to spend approximately 30 hours per clinical course in on site activities for a total of 60
clinical hours in the program. On-site activities will include the assessment, development, implementation, and
evaluation of the clinical project. The clinical course will include detailed information about the required direct
care clinical activities.
All clinical hours must be supervised by the preceptor during the academic term in which you are registered for the clinical course. Your clinical hour logs must accurately reflect the dates, times, and hours you were present at your approved clinical site and engaged in clinical activities under the supervision of the preceptor. Any instance of fabricated information in your hours or patient encounter logs can result in disciplinary action under the university’s code of student conduct.
You will work one-on-one with a patient managing a chronic condition. Your plan of care evolves over time based on patient response and engagement in self-care.
Must use the same patient for the entire course.
Preceptor must be BSN-prepared RN, PA, NP, MD, or DO.
Requires 2 in-person patient visits (preceptor must be present).
Includes 2 preceptor-student-instructor meetings.
* On site activities may include assessment of the patient, delivery of information to the patient, meeting with preceptors/team, and project development.
If your patient is discharged before completion, you must start over again with a new patient.
In this capstone experience, you will develop a systems-level, evidence-based project that addresses healthcare improvement for a client population.
Not focused on a single patient
Can use the same site/preceptor as NU497 if appropriate
