The Prelicensure Student Handbook is an important resource for ASN students to utilize throughout their program at Purdue University Global. In addition to the University policies established in the Student Code of Conduct and University Catalog, this handbook establishes the expectations and policies that ASN students are expected to adhere to while enrolled in the program. It is important for all ASN students to review this handbook to become familiar with the policies and expectations for them, and to use this handbook as a resource as questions arise in their program.
Key Components of the handbook are as follows:
Guidance on the role of the student, faculty, and clinical preceptor within academic experiences
Recommendations and policies for academic progression
Professional behaviors students are expected to exhibit in all educational settings
Expectations for attire and behavior in clinical settings
Student forms related to the prelicensure student experience
As noted in the ASN Prelicensure Student Handbook, all students and faculty are expected to follow all the policies, procedures, and behaviors aligned with professional and academic excellence in all academic settings to support their safety, wellbeing, and success. Academic settings does not just mean within the virtual classroom, but also including, but not limited to, clinical settings, student meetings, virtual simulations, and any and all communications within the educational context.

Starting in Term 5, you will take HESI Exams which measure how well you understand concepts and can apply them using critical thinking to nursing scenarios. In conjunction with your classroom professors, NCLEX mentors will help you prepare, test, and remediate, not only for each specific HESI exam, but also for the NCLEX examination.
NCLEX Mentors utilize Student Success Plan & Remediation Kits (SPARKs) as an opportunity to reinforce concepts and critical thinking to help you apply your knowledge and ultimately practice safe nursing care. This resource is meant to help and support you throughout your ASN program experience and for the professional competencies you’ll be expected to demonstrate as registered nurses.
