From 23rd to 27th March 2025, students from Japan, Taiwan, and Thailand the SDGs Global Camp in Trang. This camp was part of the third Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) project, implemented to foster international collaboration and experiential learning among students.
The camp began with the arrival of teams from Toho University and Chung Shan Medical University teams at Trang Airport, where they met PSU participants first time onsite. During the welcome dinner, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pimonsri Mittraparp-arthorn, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and International Relations, welcomed all guests.
On 24th March, the participants embarked on a site visit to Baan Lam Kanoon, where they explored mixed farming practices, a hydroelectric power plant, and the renowned Sritongdum Lemon Orchard. Hands-on cultural activities such as bamboo toy making, and traditional Southern Thai dessert preparation provided insights into local sustainable livelihoods. The day concluded with a refreshing dip in a nearby stream before returning to the hotel.
The following day, 25th March, students conducted their research in five groups and developed proposals to address sustainability challenges. This independent work allowed them to apply knowledge gained during the camp and prepare for the final presentation.
One group focused on water conservation in Trang Old Town, analyzing water usage and sanitation practices among local businesses while raising awareness about SDG 6. Another group tackled ocean sustainability through seagrass restoration and pollution reduction, linking their efforts to SDGs 12, 13, and 14. A third group explored nature’s role in mental health and well-being (SDGs 3 and 4), documenting visits to local gardens and gathering data on depression and burnout. The fourth group worked on marine conservation education (SDG 4) to foster greater awareness and protection of ocean life (SDG 14). Lastly, Group 5 investigated plastic waste management in Trang, identifying recycling challenges and proposing solutions to promote sustainable consumption and production (SDG 12).
The SDGs Global Camp concluded with presentations and a farewell dinner, celebrating their collaborative efforts. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Laemthong Chuenchom, Assistant Dean for Cooperative Education, recognized five students with the Best Presentation Award.
The camp concluded on 27th March with emotional farewells at Trang Airport and PSU team returning to Hat Yai. This immersive experience marked the culmination of six months of virtual collaboration, allowing students to translate their online discussions into practical, real-world solutions. Through this initiative, the COIL program strengthened global connections and empowered students to address sustainability challenges through cross-cultural teamwork.
