Standard 3: Supporting Student Success
Definition:
Families and staff continuously collaborate as active partners to support students’ learning at home and at school through a tiered system of supports. Information is shared about student-level and system-level progress.
Family, School, Community Partnership Dynamics to consider:
- How confident do parents feel about their ability to help their children with : Do they feel they have the knowledge and skills to make a difference?
- How does my school inform families on required skills students need in each subject?
- How does my school inform families about homework policies and how to monitor and discuss schoolwork at home?
- How can I help parents assist students with skills that they need to improve?
- Can my school provide families and students with summer learning packets or activities to avoid the 'summer slide'?
- How can I involve families in helping students set academic goals each year and plan for college or work?
- If a parent does not speak English, how can they still support their child with their homework?
- Regular schedule of interactive homework that requires students to demonstrate and discuss what they are learning in class
