There are two Choir classes offered at BPHS
Course Number: ART107
Grade Level: 9 – 12
Credits: 1 Art of Elective Credit
Semester, 4-day or 5-day per week course
Choir 1 is an introductory level course for students interested in vocal music performance. It is also an outlet for the student who enjoys singing for his/her own pleasure. The following musical skills will be stressed: proper breathing, pleasant vocal production, blend and balance, expansion of range, good intonation, ear training, and sight-reading various styles of choral literature. Participation in school performances is required because they support and extend learning in the classroom. Students may seek one-on-one vocal training during office hours.
Note: This is a vocal music course only; Singers will not involve the study of instruments. This course is a prerequisite for IB Dance and IB theater.

Grade Level: 10 – 12
Credits: 1 Art of Elective Credit
Semester, 4-day or 5-day per week course
Choir II is open to students beginning in grade 10. Students study fundamental vocal technique and ensemble singing in a variety of musical styles. The concert choir performs for the school community. Students learn to work and sing in small groups through different exercises and choral compositions. Basic music terminology, theory and history are also taught in the class to ensure students’ basic musical knowledge. The following vocal/music skills will be stressed: proper vocal production, blend and balance, sight-reading proficiency, ear training, expansion of range, technical facility, a cappella singing, dynamic nuances and 3 & 4 part music. Students may seek one-on-one vocal training during office hours. This course is a prerequisite for IB Dance and IB theater.
Note: This is a vocal music course only; Singers will not involve the study of instruments. Students can take this course for 1 semester or a full-year.
