Participation in Government examines the citizen’s rights, roles, and responsibilities within the U.S. Federal system, viewing the subject through the lens of current events, real-life court cases, federal reports, and other primary sources as students build a greater understanding of the U.S. government. Students are responsible for conducting effective research methods and utilizing relevant sources to engage in discussion or writing tasks in which they provide their own perspectives on a range of topics involving the U.S. Government and its impacts on society such as Federalism, the First Amendment, Gun Rights, the Super Rich, Political Parties, Policing, and Voting Rights. By the course’s conclusion, students will have developed a stronger understanding of the active role they can play as a citizen within the U.S. government.
