Global Studies I is the first year of a two year curriculum that prepares students for the Global History and Geography Regents exam. Students will focus on developing the skills of a historian in sourcing, contextualizing, analyzing and corroborating evidence-based conclusions. With explicit practice accessing both primary and secondary sources, students will develop the effective inquiry skills necessary to achieve conceptual understanding of the content. Through this work, students will recognize patterns in the interactions and interdependence of individuals, societies and environments across time and space. Topics include but are not limited to: The Golden Ages of: the Medieval Americas, the Islamic Empire, the Mongol Empire, and Renaissance Europe as well as the Silk Road, Exploration, Columbian Exchange, Transatlantic Slave Trade, Scientific Revolution, Enlightenment, and French and Haitian Revolutions. The course culminates with an in-depth research assignment.
