This web page is meant to help you transition into art class smoothly. When you enroll in school or a class late, it can make you feel like you are behind, and can't catch up. When you complete the activities here, you should have a better idea of the normal routines and expectations. Feel free to ask questions about the activities.
You should have a packet to complete as you are visiting this web page. If you do not, ask for it now! Then, work your way down this page, through the activities.
ACTIVITY 2: Elements of Art
Right click and open the Elements of Art page in a new tab.
Read through the page, and either watch the videos or read the reference sheet.
Illustrate the graphic organizer on the ACTIVITY 2 page of your packet. See the example to the right.
You can create any drawing that will help you remember that Element of Art. The only definition you need to write down is for "Elements of Art" (the ingredients for making art). Every other triangle section will be a drawing.
ACTIVITY 3: Principles of Design
Right click and open the Principles of Design page in a new tab.
Read through the page, and either go through the slideshow or read the reference sheet.
Complete the ACTIVITY 3 page of your packet.
In each space, you are combining the Element of Art and the Principle of Design to make a simple drawing. For example, in the box where shape and balance meet, you will try to use shapes to show balance.
ACTIVITY 4: Prepare a Sketch Binder & Portfolio
You will receive a binder to keep in the art classroom and use as a sketchbook and to organize work and resources. You will be given the binder and dividers to use this year, but it will be returned at the end of the course-- so treat it like it's being borrowed, and keep it in good condition.
You will receive a portfolio to store all of your 2-D artwork in throughout the course. Your portfolio will be yours to keep at the end of the course.
