Perspective

Perspective means point of view. In art, when we create images, we are showing a certain perspective. Part of perspective is creating the illusion of depth, or 3-dimensional space, on a flat (2-dimensional) surface.

1. Add the following words to the vocabulary page in your sketch binder:

• Atmospheric Perspective - Depth created by colors getting closer to the background color as the get farther away
• Linear Perspective - Mathematical technique for creating the illusion of depth on a flat surface

2. Look through the slideshow.

3. PRACTICE LINEAR PERSPECTIVE: Complete the one-point perspective and two-point perspective boxes drawing activities.

4. PRACTICE LINEAR PERSPECTIVE: Complete the Perspective Practice activities.

5. PRACTICE ATMOSPHERIC PERSPECTIVE: Complete the cut paper collage notes on Space, identifying foreground, middle ground, and background.

6. Complete the Atmospheric Perspective notes by drawing how the elements in the left column change depending on if they are in the foreground, middle ground, or background.
