Background
Under the guidance of Katie Devos, head of School Groups from Amnesty International, we created our first Amnesty International Chapter within our Community Service Group. Our goal is to support Amnesty's Human Rights activism through letter writing and actions that are directed by Amnesty's global organization.
The formation of our Pomfret Amnesty Group began with the leadership of Laisha Escalante with the help of Ella Anderson and Grant Maurer. They went through the online workshop to gain a sense of what Amensty International does as an organization and met with the Leader of Education Outreach, Katie Devos, to form our first Amensty Group in a long time.
Impact
We believe through our letter writing actions and future Amnesty volunteering actions, we will help the global community to understand the value of each human being and their human rights. We will continue to be a Pomfret School Amnesty Group as part of the larger Amnesty Groups throughout the country.
As the term closes and students graduate, Amnesty sends an email giving further instruction over the summer and to end the year in action for student groups.

TAKE ACTION ON ICE DETENTION CENTERS - IMMIGRANT RIGHTS
Our first action of Winter 2022 is a letter writing campaign issued through Amnesty USA. Students are writing letters to government officials focusing on prisoners of conscience that were wrongfully imprisoned. The letters will hopefully raise awareness that we are watching and know these things are going on and that human rights have been violated.
