NAFI has long been a proponent of foster care programming as it allows youth to remain in a supportive, caring, home environment, even if living “at home” is not an option. Throughout our organization, there are a number of foster care program models offered, including therapeutic foster care, short-term, assessment foster care, Professional Parenting Programs (PPP), wraparound programming, high-end specialty foster care programs such as our NAFI New York Westchester Wraparound program and evidence-based foster care models such as Treatment foster Care Oregon (TFCO), which we currently offer in Connecticut, Massachusets, and Rhode Island
The idea to donate gifts from our community came from Daniel Lutts '24 and Van Horvaths' '24 initiatives that were in the works since the Spring term. Daniel had done this with his school in Russia before coming to Pomfret. Now it will be a new tradition for our community and a new service project for Community Service.
Background
On Friday Dec 9th, 2022, Daniel Lutts '24, Van Horvath '24, and Rosi Martines '24, delivered donated gifts from the Pomfret community to NAFI in Warwick, RI. The Giving Tree Donation Drive started in October with the help of the Fall Community Service students creating envelopes with gift lists in them attached to a Christmas Tree in the Dining Hall. The Pomfret Community took all of the envelopes and purchased the gift items throughout October and November. We were able to get more than enough presents to give to Foster Children within NAFI's Foster Care Network.

Impact
We believe we helped by making children who are not as fortunate within the NAFI Foster Care program happy to receive presents for the Holidays. It also made us feel good to contribute as a community.
