Neighborhood Parking Curtesy
Living near a school has the joy of hearing and seeing children and thieir excitment on a daily basis. It also has its challenges. Please be courteous to our neighbors when parking for drop off and pick up. Blocking driveways when parking, even partially, creates difficulty for our neighbors who need to exit or enter their driveways. This is a ticketable offense.
Halloween Parade Info
Please join us on Tuesday, October 31st at 8:35 on the basketball courts to watch the school parade. Please click here for more information and guidelines on appropriate costuming.
A HUGE thank you
A HUGE thank you to all our PTA Fun Run Volunteers and organizers. It was a successful fundraiser and students will have an exciting reward assembly on Oct. 13th. Most importantly students had a great time with a well organized event, there was tons of family participation, and memories were made.
RECESS Alternatives
Is your student looking for alternatives to the traditional recess activities? We've got options!
SCIENCE LAB
Mrs. Nigam, our science teacher, has been offering alternative activities at lunchtime recesses. Students in first through 5th grade have been building in the science lab. Ask your students if they have gone to STEM recess in the lab. If they haven't yet, encourage them to give it a try. Here is the current schedule:
Tuesdays: 1st - 5th during their lunch recess
Thursdays: 1st - 5th during their lunch recess
LIBRARY
Ms. Hengst, our librarian, opens the library for students during lunch recess. Students who want a quiet location to read, exchange books, play games, or other quiet activities can visit the library. Here is the current schedule:
Mondays: 1st - 5th during their lunch recess
Fridays: 1st - 5th during their lunch recess
WELLNESS CENTER
Ms. Walker, our counselor is opening the wellness center for lunch bunch twice a week. Teachers and the counselor work together to design appropriate activities and groups. This opportunity is available by invitation.
1ST Grade Health Exam
Physical Exam Form: The examination is required by California State law. The examination helps uncover any hidden health problems that might keep your child from doing well in school. Children may have the exam as early as 6 months before entering Kindergarten and up to 90 days after entering First Grade.
Exams for current first graders are due Wednesday, November 8th.
Safety Drills
School safety drills occur every month. Please be aware that school safety officers or firefighters may be on the school campus to give feedback ensuring drills run smoothly and efficiently.
STUDENT ITEMS - Anything that comes to school should have the child's name and teacher's name clearly marked ("Sharpie" pens are great for this purpose).
For parents who are dropping off items for students:
If not already marked, please clearly mark item with student's first and last name AND teacher's name.
Items left for students should be placed on the cart behind the entrance gate of the school office BEFORE 11:30am. Musical instruments can be placed under the bench inside the office.
School policy is that classes will not be disrupted for delivery of items students forgot to take to school. If your student is not expecting a drop off, please email your student's teacher so that they can let your child.
Our office staff works hard to manage all of the tasks necessary to keep Vintage Hills running, and we cannot guarantee that items left for children will be picked up during the school day.
Thank you very much for your cooperation!
From Ms. Walker, VH's Counselor
In alignment with the PUSD Counseling Master Plan to assist K-12 students with social and academic development, I've been having fun teaching and interacting with ALL our VH fabulous students. TK, Kinder, First, Second, and Fourth Grades received one or more lessons in September, and EVERY grade will be presented with a lesson in October. You will receive information about what was taught and how to support the learning each time your student's class participates in a lesson.
Additional support with small group counseling has begun. We are one month into practicing Self-Regulation using a fun sports-themed curriculum. Student's working on managing our emotions using a Thought, Feelings, and Actions curriculum.
