The Old Dogs Versus The Young Pups

The annual old dogs versus young pups grudge match took place on Saturday the 21st June. A lack of over 40 year old players meant the age limit for the old dogs was lowered to over 35's. The game started well with little between the teams. Soon though, the old dogs started to pull away with some good passing and, unbelievably, some fast breaks!! As the match progressed the young pups eventually started to run at their opponents who were showing signs of tiredness, but it was all too late. The old dogs had won the day for the second year in a row.

Winners : The Old Dogs

3 Point Shootout

This year saw the first ever 3 point shootout. Most players in the team took part with some interesting results. The final was between Scott Sanford and Kenny Moretta. The toss of the coin saw Scott shoot first. Scoring 3 from 6, the pressure was on Kenny who shot well but couldn't better Scott.

Winner : Scott Sanford

Player Of The Year Awards

Again this year was a first ever for Pleasance Basketball Club, to honour their players with an awards ceremony. First up coach Sanford presented awards for the A-Team., followed by Coach Raper for the First team.

PLEASANCE OVER 40'S Vs PLEASANCE UNDER 40'S

The biggest game of the year for pleasance with pride very much on the line, the old dog's versus the young pups.

The day started with the old dogs up to their dirty tricks before the game had even began. With the lack of a ball handler, former pleasance point guard George charters was recruited at last minute along with Mike Donlevy turning traitor to play for the over 40's (believe it or not mike is still under 40!!!).

The jump ball was between the two big men of the teams : Mike Donlevy and Scott Sanford. With coach raper starting as the supposed fair referee the ball started off with the old dogs. The unfair start to the match seemed to have no effect on the eager young pups who stormed away to an early lead of 14 points to 5, with several fast breaks tearing up the old guard. Unfortunately for the pup's they could not extend their lead any further already using up their advantage of superior pace and fitness. It didn't take too long before the old dog's found their feet and settled into the game, tying it up by half time.

With excellent play from both teams in the first half the game looked like either team could win. Neither team could gain any serious lead but some full court pressing by the pup's forced their more experienced opponents to turn over the ball with some poor passing and allowed them to take a small lead by the end of the third quarter.

The fourth and final quarter was the pinnacle for the dog's, they had turned over the small lead gained by the pups late in third quarter, very early on. The young and inexperienced pup's began to panic and started to play one on one basketball!! With a massive height difference in favour of the dog's, along with some poor finishing on fast breaks the game looked all but over. The pup's did not give up and fought right to the end but the dog's vast experience allowed them to cooly keep their wits about them and hold on for the victory.
