Tennis is a team sport as well as an individual sport.
In 2017 four of our individuals qualified for the state individual tournament—it's hard to do better than that.
Last year one player (a sophomore!) was named to the All-CCC team.
In 2015 and 2017 we qualified as a team for the state team tournament.
Obviously we have many goals, but for me, the team success counts more than the individual's. The players know this: I'm thrilled when they win their match, but at the end of the day, if the team doesn't win, I don't think of our efforts as successful. For that reason it's important for the players to adjust to where in the order they are playing. I can recount at least five instances in the past three or four years where singles players played doubles to ensure the team's success. Not long ago our number one player went from one-singles to one-doubles with no stops in between—then qualified for the state individual tournament.
Letters: Appearing in at least half of all varsity matches qualifies you for a letter.
In order for the #1 singles player to make the state individual tournament, she must win 60% of the matches she plays at #1.
In order for the #2 singles player to make the state individual tournament, she must win 75% of the matches she plays at #2.
The same formula applies for #1 and #2 doubles.
In order for the team to qualify for the team tournament we must win at least half of our matches.
