As you may have heard, the CIAC today issued a statement that allows for the possibility of spring spots seasons beginning in mid-late April. I hope the prediction is not just a wish but based on something factual.
I was thinking today that even if we played an intramural season, it would be fun to get you all together and play some competitive tennis. We had a nice team coming back—yes talented, but also nice. I would regret missing the chance to have coached you this season.
So let's remain positive, and let's be smart. I saw a news story tonight of college kids on spring break having a great time on a beach in Florida. One of them said he wasn't afraid of coronavirus—"If I get it, I get it, It's not going to stop me from partying." This kind of brainlessness requires serious intervention, but he speaks for many people his age. DON'T BE ONE OF THEM. New research says that this disease can affect young people too.
So no crowds. No stores. No impromptu tennis practices. Just tough it out like everyone else, and maybe if this slows down, you can listen to the whoosh of the cans opening and enjoy the thrill of taking the court while the wind blows the balls to the other fence.
I hope you're all doing okay. Keep in touch—not with me, but definitely with each other.
