On a personal note, I taught at Plainville High School for 35 years and enjoyed every minute. All right, not every minute, but most of them. There was that one day that...well...never mind.
After all this time, the students with whom I remain in contact the most are my yearbook editors and my athletes. They were always the ones to go that extra yard to achieve something bigger than themselves. They are proof that playing sports doesn't build character, it displays it.
Coaching—like the rest of life— is full of surprises and disappointments, and I'm sure that as a team and individual team members, we'll have our share. Nevertheless I'm always grateful for the opportunity to work with your student-athletes as they try to achieve that "something bigger than themselves"—not just on the tennis courts, but throughout their lives. If we don't reach our goals, it won't be for lack of trying.
