The next 12-16 months will be a test for all of us. It's not a test of survival; it's a test of gathering information and responding to it in a reasonable manner.
We all know how bad it can get, but nobody can say for sure how bad it will get; and any methods used to mitigate it must be taken. For us that means making a change.
Even though the magic number for gatherings is 100 and there would probably not be 100 patrons at West Main Pizza on a Sunday evening, I am canceling the event. I'm considering alternate possibilities, including a pizza/pre-season meeting at school later next week where we are in better control of the environment and surroundings. More later.
All that black stuff you see on the courts when you drive by is mold, and it can be slippery. We are working to get the courts washed and the nets installed as soon as possible, but until the courts are cleaned and that danger is alleviated, you'll have to wait. I know the weather has been good and some of you want to get out and hit some, but the weather should remain mild right through the next few weeks. Be patient.
We play until someone tells us we can't anymore. If area schools close, P.H.S. among them, sports will "close" also. You may be able to practice unofficially—maybe with me, maybe without. But here's the important thing: everything from here on in is a guess or a hunch, and I would avoid guesses and hunches and listen only to the medical professionals. Statistics prove that people who tend to minimize situations like this do worse than people who take it seriously.
As for the team, let's approach the season like every other one and make adjustments when needed.
The parents/players/coaches meeting is still on, but instead of a large gathering and break-out sessions, there will be break-out sessions only.
As always email me (raddac@plainvilleschools.org) if you have any other questions.
