Character:
I have worked really hard to exhibit my values in situations that won’t ever show up on a resume. Sometimes you have to make really hard decisions, the kind of things that won’t ever show up on a resume. I strive to make the best decisions I can every day. Recently, I was in a horrific situation where I had to make a difficult decision to be angry about someone’s actions which negatively impacted me in a major, or try to support that person in their own grief about what happened. A young adult was drunk, going 75 miles per hour, and hit me. I decided to embrace him, to make the best of a bad situation, and I asked him if he wanted to pray with me. I continued a friendship with him, inviting him to church. My peers asked me multiple times about the person who hit me, as they felt angry about the situation. I decided not to tell the name of the person, as I knew he already had a court date, as well as his own sadness about the situation. I really didn’t want to further shame him, and tried to protect his identity from the public. Although this can be uncomfortable to talk about, moments like this are examples of how my moral compass has guided me through high school and allowed me to help many people, including the driver in the car accident.
Service:
I’ve dedicated my high school career to acts of service. This includes Fellowship of Christian Athletes, where I’ve been able to feed kids through our meetings, both physically and spiritually. We’ve been able to build a bible study in different athletic groups, including cheer, wrestling, and powerlifting. During my time on the football team at PHS, there were a lot of transitional and tumultuous times. I was dedicated to serving the team, and trying to build community in it. We hosted movie nights, bible study, and other events. Through my church, Vineyard, I have been dedicated to serving so it can grow. I’ve led events, done the audio/visual part of the service, and worked in the youth group. Through service, I’ve tried my best to help individuals with their school work, offering people rides, and giving advice when it’s asked of me.
Achievement:
I have achieved a 4.2 GPA throughout my time at PHS. I have taken 5 AP classes, all of which have helped me to look at different issues from different perspectives. I enjoyed taking AP Literature and Language, which will help me in college.
During my football career, despite being undersized, I was able to achieve a high level of play, team defensive MVP, all-state honorable mention, and the Load award- given to the player who best represents the team on and off the field.
Leadership:
I have strived to be a leader in anything I do, whether that is leading by example or being in a leadership position .This includes being president of FCA for two years, captain of the football team for two years, and being a leader in group projects as well as other classroom opportunities. Leadership is incredibly important to me because it keeps me accountable and it pushes me to do better in whatever I am striving for. As a leader, you have to lead by example, and I try to do that as best as I can.
