As Occupational Therapists in the school setting, one of our core focuses is Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) – the essential, everyday tasks like managing clothes, washing hands, or organizing a backpack. Mastering these skills is crucial for a student's independence and success, both in and out of the classroom, allowing them to focus more energy on learning. When a student can confidently perform these tasks, it boosts their confidence, improves social interactions, and ensures smoother participation in their school day.
The good news is that ADLs can be improved with consistent practice! We've put together some tips and tricks to make it easier, like breaking tasks into smaller steps, using visuals, and making practice fun. We're currently building a library of practice videos and resources right here, demonstrating various ADL tasks to support your efforts at home.
