Welcome to the Occupational Therapy Resource Page
School-Based Occupational Therapy is a related service and functions to support students whose neuromuscular, sensorimotor, and/or cognitive challenges impact educational progress and successful participation in the educational environment. Our occupational therapy team provides individualized tools and support to students in order to facilitate the development of confidence and functional independence to meet their potential in the classroom setting. Goals reflect the assessed needs of each student. Occupational therapy focuses on occupational performance as it relates to the student’s motor skills, daily living skills, school work activities, play skills, or vocational skills.
All Piedmont Public School Occupational Therapy Service Practitioners are certified by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) and are licensed through the Oklahoma State Board of Medical Licensure and Supervision.

Fun Fact: Occupational therapy was established during World War I. The United States War Department employed reconstruction aids (RA) to assist wounded and worrisome soldiers in their recovery.
These RAs were civilian women who served in military hospitals, at home, and abroad to help reconstruct the realities of the lives the soldiers had known before becoming disabled. Occupational therapy RAs taught crafts and vocational skills to distract the injured while increasing their productivity and morale.
