SchoolMAX is an electronic student information system used by Prince George's County Public schools to record attendance, grades, assignments, report cards, discipline incidents, and other information about your child. The Family Portal is an application that allows parents to view this student information as it is added in real time. For example, when a student attendance is marked for that day, the parent or guardian can immediately login and see it.

As a parent, you can register for the Family Portal on your own. This allows you to reset your own password through an email account. If you do not have an email account, you will need to create one. A free email account can be created at gmail.com, outlook.com or yahoo.com. In addition to using this email to log in to Family Portal, PGCPS may use it to contact you about important announcements such as school closures.

This year we have field trips and other student activities (field trips, dances, pep rallies, hallway parties, orientation, class parties, school tours, open houses, etc.) planned that REQUIRE parent/guardian volunteers and chaperones. Please go to https://offices.pgcps.org/volunteer/cards/Become-a-Volunteer/ to complete the process. If we don't have enough parents, we will have to cancel these activities. On this day, December 3rd in 2006, our namesake General James Gholson passed away. His life is a testament to excellence, resistance, and determination. He served as the first principal of Fairmont High School, one of two high schools for African-Americans in segregated Prince George's County Public Schools for 17 years and as Assistant Superintendent of Northern Area. He is nationally known for being the architect and engineer of desegregation of PGCPS that has been replicated across the nation! Because of him, we are able to attend quality schools no matter our skin color, heritage, or zipcode. It is in his honor, we live, serve, lead, learn, and instruct! Let us make him proud!

During National Family Engagement Month we celebrate Ms. Chavonne Chase, our Parent Engagement Assistant, for creating open and welcoming environments for our Knight families. She keeps families informed, connected, & engaged! You'll find Ms. Chase welcoming students and families in Scholar Circle, covering the main office (as we look to hire secretaries), supporting parents at our Monday evening Parent Support Center, crafting and leading parent workshops and filling in wherever else she sees a need. We are grateful for her impact, hard work and efforts to support Thee G. James Gholson Middle students, families, and our community. Prince George’s County Public Schools is proud to announce our new district-wide communication tool, SchoolMessenger. The SchoolMessenger system is a robust communication tool that the district, schools, and teachers will use to communicate with parents, students, and community members using phone calls, emails, social media, and text messaging.

What should I do?

• Make sure your contact information (primary telephone and cell phone numbers) is up-to-date at your child/ren’s school(s). This will allow you to receive phone calls and text/SMS messages.

• Register for the Family Portal if you have not done so already. This will allow you to receive emails from the teacher and school.

• Visit our school’s website for general updates and announcements at (enter school website).

• Follow our school on social media at (enter social media information).

What should I expect?

• Phone calls will be identified from the district or school by caller ID number.

• Text/SMS messages will come from 67587.

• Emails will come from individuals- teachers, administrators, etc.

 The International High School at Langley Park/Largo is recruiting current eighth graders to join the Class of 2028. This presentation outlines the admission criteria and the benefits of attending an International High School.

The International High School Largo is now accepting registration for School Year 2024-2025. Apply early if you are interested! Must be accepted into the program.
