This introduction will cover some of the basic terms and topics you will encounter in the support articles on this website. This will help you understand user instructions. For specific questions, feel free to look at our FAQ page or contact us by email.
Brightspace or D2L (Desire 2 Learn) is the LMS platform we use to host Dean Vaughn's online courses. As an instructor, you will always access your online course dashboard in D2L. Unless you set up an integration between your Dean Vaughn D2L course and another LMS or you purchase app licenses for your students, they will also use D2L to access their student course.
A learning management system (LMS) is a software application or web-based technology used to plan, implement and assess a specific learning process. In other words, it is a platform used to host and manage online course content. The one we use for Dean Vaughn's online courses is called Brightspace or D2L.
If you are the first / only instructor your organization purchased licenses for, your new course and instructor account will be set up by Dean Vaughn Support. We will typicaly get your information (name and email address) from your organization's purchasing department. Our support team will create your course, enroll you as an instructor and email you to share your login information and some onboarding instructions.
If your organization already has access to their online course(s) and other instructors are enrolled in the system, they can also provide you with access to the course. Existing instructors can enroll additional instructors into the system, but the first instructor will always be enrolled by our customer service.
You should log in here: https://learn.petersons.com/d2l/login
Our customer service will send you your login information. D2L will require you to log in with a username (FirstName.LastName format) and a password. You can request a reset password link here: https://learn.petersons.com/d2l/lp/forgotPassword/forgotPassword.d2l
As an instructor with access to your D2L / Dean Vaughn online course, you should enroll your students into the system. You can do that manually or in bulk, please take a look at these support pages for detailed information: Enrollment, Bulk enrollment
There are two exceptions:
Integrations
You want to link your D2L Dean Vaughn online course to your organization's existing LMS (e.g. Canvas or Blackboard). If you are interested in setting up an integration, please make sure to request it before you enroll students into D2L. If we set up an integration for you, your students will access their Dean Vaughn course through a link in their existing LMS, which means there is absolutely no need to enroll them into D2L directly. More on integrations here: Integrations
App access
You purchased online licenses and app licenses for your class. In this case, our customer service will need to enroll your students on the backend. We developed a separate enrollment platform that enables students to access the app and the online course with an email address and password, instead of a username and password. This also means you should not enroll your class into D2L directly.
If your students are enrolled into D2L directly (you set up their accounts in D2L), they should log in here: https://learn.petersons.com/d2l/login, with a username (FirstName.LastName format) and password. They reset their password here: https://learn.petersons.com/d2l/lp/forgotPassword/forgotPassword.d2l
As an instructor, you can reset your student's passwords on your classlist page.
Integrations
If you have an active integration between your Dean Vaughn online course in D2L and your organization's LMS, students will log into the course through a link in their LMS course. They do not need to log into D2L. They don't have a D2L username or a password. If you need to change their passwords, please contact your organization's LMS admin. This has nothing to do with Dean Vaughn Support.
App access
If your class has access to the online course and the Flashcard app, they should log in here: https://deanvaughn.com/login, with an email address and password. Students will set their own passwords. They can request a new set password link here: https://deanvaughn.com/forgot-password
Important: In this case, we don't have access to their password, and we can't reset it. As an instructor, you will not be able to reset their passwords either.
The best and quickest way to get support is to email dvsupport@petersons.com. This is the email address you can contact to get technical support, general product information, tracking numbers, price quotes, etc. Customer support requests are our top priority.
If you need additional product / technical support or you come across a complex issue that is hard to explain via email, you can contact our Customer Success Manager Maria directly in order to set up a video call. While phone calls are great in some situations, we believe the best way to troubleshoot complex technical issues always includes screen sharing.
