Robotics and Technology falls across various programs within the school curriculum. In the Extra-curricular space we offer
VEX Robotics (Junior - Year 4 & 5 , Middle and Senior School - Year 6-12)
Students in both Robotic competitions are engaged in a process of engineering with the design cycle principles embedded throughout the programs. Across all the robotics and technologies programs, students work as part of teams, learn important life skills in collaboration, problem solving and communication.
Where possible, students should take personal responsibility for advance notification of absence from a practice or session by emailing the teacher with appropriate explanation.
Additional notification from the parent is always appreciated but we like the students to take responsibility in the first instance.
Sessions run : Term 2 to 4
Competition program across the year
VEX is the world’s largest robotics competition with two distinct programs. VEX IQ targeted towards Years 3 to 8 and the VEX V5 platform for Years 9 to 12. Both programs have new fields to compete on each year launching in May.
The use of the VEX platform is taught within Pedare’s Digital Technologies classes, this provides every student at the College an opportunity to understand the world of autonomous robots.
Students in the competition build and program both autonomous and remote-controlled robots. The students are involved in teams which are required to document the journey in an engineering notebook that is scrutineered at the tournaments.
Pedare hosts the only VEX tournaments in South Australia that lead to National qualifications.
Note for Friends and Families of Pedare
As a major host of robotic tournaments, we are always in need of new judges to help at our tournaments. All training is provided with no prior experience necessary.
Our judges come from across industry and continuously return to re-judge due to the unique experience to engage and mentor future leaders in the fields of STEM.
Please contact the College for more information.
