Second Language Admission Requirement

The Second Language Admission Deficiency Requirement is separate and different from the Bachelor of Arts Second Language Competency Requirement. Bachelor of Arts students will satisfy the Second Language Admission Requirement with their B.A. Second Language Competency Requirement. See Bachelor of Arts Requirements.

Bachelor of Science students will need to complete the Second Language Admission Deficiency Requirement if it shows on their DARS report.

Students with 2 years of the same high school level second language with grades of C- or higher can have the Second Language Admission Requirement waived. To have this done, submit an official high school transcript. Oregon residents who completed a GED are exempt. The GED score report must be submitted. To otherwise satisfy the Second Language Admission Requirement, you must complete 2 quarters of a college-level second language (101 & 102).

PSU currently teaches the following languages online: French & Spanish.

101 is only offered online during Fall, with 102 online during Winter.

Students who already speak, read & write in a language other than English may be able to test out of the requirement. Students who completed their education through 7th grade in another country in a language other than English may be able to have the requirement waived. If you feel that one of these situations applies to you, then contact your Academic Advisor for more information.

In order to satisfy the Second Language Admission Requirement, applicable classes are available online at PSU, but are not managed by the CCJ Online program. Tuition will be higher for non-Oregon residents. Students are responsible for finding applicable classes using the PSU Schedule of Classes. Courses taken at community colleges may also be transferrable. If you plan to complete this requirement through another school, you MUST check with your Academic Advisor in advance when you find a class that interests you in order to receive verification that the class will transfer okay and work for PSU's requirement.
