CCJ 336 Applied Crime Mapping requires students to install a mapping software called QGIS on their personal computer. There is no cost for the QGIS software.
You must successfully install QGIS on your own computer before you can receive department permission to register for CCJ 336. You will need to devote some time to completing the installation process.
Steps to Register:
Submit the pre-registration form: https://forms.gle/5SNPmvy71JmmbPA17
To complete the form you will need to have your student ID number.
Completing this form will allow you to move on to step 2.
Complete the QGIS Installation Module in Canvas.
The installation module will walk you through installation of the software you need to complete the assignments in the CCJ 336 Applied Crime Mapping course. If all goes well, it should take around an hour to successfully install.
Watch your PSU email.
Within 3 business days of completing the QGIS Installation Module, you will receive an email providing you with permission to register when your registration window is open.
Registration for CCJ 336 Applied Crime Mapping first requires successful installation of the free QGIS software package on your Microsoft Windows or Apple Mac computer. Chromebook machines are not acceptable. If you only have access to a Chromebook, you cannot install QGIS and you will be unable to register for this course.
Desktop computers are preferred, but are not required. Laptop screens are smaller in size and can make the QGIS toolbar icons difficult to see.
You are required to have QGIS on your own personal computer. You may not register for the class if you intend to rely exclusively on PSU computer labs.
QGIS is available to interested students each Winter term in advance of the Spring class.
