All interested grade 12 students are supported by their Itinerant Teacher of the Deaf/ Hard of Hearing to prepare for their transition to post-secondary studies or as they embark on other career paths. Depending on the path chosen, this might include:
1) Developing a Post-Secondary Accommodations Plan, with the support of a Consulting Educational Audiologist. This form can be presented to Accessibility Services at their chosen college/ university. It outlines:
The hearing-related accommodations they have been using in high school.
Recommendations for hearing-related accommodations to be used in college/ university.
A recommendation for the model of FM system to be purchased by Accessibility Services for use in college/ university.
2) A consultation with the FM Technologist to learn about how to troubleshoot with FM systems more independently.
3) Support for registering with Accessibility Services in college/ university. See the video below for more information about Accessibility Services. Itinerant teachers will help students prepare documents to bring to their first appointment with Accessibility Services. These documents might include:
A Post-Secondary Accommodations Plan (see above)
A recent audiogram documenting the hearing loss
A copy of the student's IEP
A letter written by the student detailing the accommodations they require for accessibility and why they need them
