1) Make sure that you are wearing the microphone in the centre of your chest and about 20 cm below your mouth. Wearing the mic to the side will result in the student missing some of what you say when you turn your head.
2) Speak at a normal pace and volume.
3) Check in with your student to ensure the system is working. For younger students, try saying a secret word from the other side of room and have them repeat it.
4) When students are speaking in small or large groups have the other students wear the microphone.
5) No matter their age, try to encourage independence with the system.
6) Make sure you mute or turn off the microphone when you are no addressing the student with hearing loss and especially when you are having private conversations/going to the bathroom!
