Traffic Drivers On Patch
We have several tools to help drive traffic to your content, the most prominent being our daily newsletter. *The culmination of every day of work at Patch is the assembling of a strong, local newsletter.
Our subscribers are a valued and valuable audience. They are the most loyal Patch users.
We currently have more than 3 million subscribers nationwide.
The average newsletter reaches several thousand people each day, while the average home page only attracts about 200 visitors. Your lead newsletter story each day is your "golden ticket." If you blow this, you lose page views by the hundreds, even thousands.
The newsletter offers a mix of content:
5 news slots programmed by the editor
Upcoming events from the local calendar
Links to free local classified posts
Featured jobs
AND
Patch's Home Office can "pin" a sponsored content post to the 3rd slot (and a 6th if necessary)
Live By The Newsletter Rules
Your five "top story" pins will populate the newsletter in order. If you leave slots unpinned, the newsletter will draw the most recent local posts from the last 24 hours.
If there are no local posts in the last 24 hours, the newsletter will draw articles pinned to the state Patch.
(FYI: This isn't a good look for your newsletter.)
If sponsored content is force-fed into the newsletter, you will only have four slots for your content.
Newsletter delivery to subscriber inboxes begins at 6 a.m. local time.
Most of our users — 70 percent or more — view Patch email on their smartphones.
That makes the first 3-4 words in your headline vitally important!
As you're picking the story you want to appear as your lead newsletter item and email subject line, think about which story is the most compelling and of the greatest interest to the largest number of people. You get a few words to make an impact and inspire people to open the email to see what's inside, and click!
