Week beginning - Monday 9th March 2026
Take a peek at all the amazing things we've been learning this week!
This week, year 6 have learnt about the Battle of Britain and The Blitz (and how they were different)! Beginning with work on grid references, which allowed them to plan defences of the Kent coast by strategically placing aircraft stations, lookout stations and radar towers to respond to German attack from their air-force, the Luftwaffe. The children had to use their self-management skills to 'build' these in time (plotting them onto their maps) and using problem solving to consider where to add further infrastructure throughout the game.
We have begun reading Tail End Charlie, which tells the story of a man in the RAF during the Second World War. They have then been using this to write letters home, from the 1st person perspective of Charlie, addressed to his parents. In these letters, the children have described some of the ops (operations), injuries, benefits of being in the RAF (such as access to real eggs) and the 'knees ups' (parties) that the RAF officers use to keep morale high.
We have begun preparations for the Parental Engagement Events next week: Monday = 6C, Tuesday = 6S, Wednesday = 6D. We look forward to welcoming some of you then, to celebrate your children's excellent learning!
In maths, we have revisited fractions (adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing) and finding the mean. Could you work out the mean (average) shoe size or age of the people in your house?
6C
You have taken a great deal of pride in your work and sports this week. You have performed excellently and been a brilliant role model to others. Very impressed!
6S
You always exercise your self-management skills, being able to problem solve and reflect. You show care towards all work you complete and to all those around you.
6D
This week you've been an ambitious and risk-taking learning; trying your best to explore the experiences of the people in WW2. You were knowledgeable with coordinates too.
6C
You are a confident and fluent reader who shares clearly and precisely about the text we are reading. Good job!
6S
Your reading is fantastic! You show empathy with individuals you're reading about and can make amazing inferences, linking what you're reading to your own prior knowledge and experiences.
6D
Independently, you have been adding to your reading journal and sharing the elements you're enjoying. Keep it up!!
