Week beginning - Monday 9th March 2026
Take a peek at all the amazing things we've been learning this week!
Dear Parents and Carers,
It has been another fantastic week in Year 2 and the children have worked incredibly hard across all areas of learning.
Inquiry
This week we have been risk takers by bringing out our inner artists. The children explored different forms of art and looked at a range of artists who have been inspired by space exploration. Using a variety of materials including crayons, pens, pencils, oil pastels, charcoal, watercolours and paint, the children experimented with different techniques to create their own space-themed artwork. They practised these techniques by imitating the styles and ideas of other artists before developing their own pieces. We are incredibly proud of the creativity and effort the children have shown, and the artwork they have produced is fantastic!
Maths
In maths, we have been principled mathematicians and have been learning about doubling. The children now understand that doubling a number is the same as multiplying it by 2, and we have linked this to our knowledge of times tables. We have also begun to explore the 2, 5 and 10 times tables in more depth. The children have been identifying patterns within these tables and discussing what they notice. Alongside this, we have been revisiting odd and even numbers and thinking about how they relate to doubling and multiplication.
Maritime Museum Trip Update:
Last week, the office sent out a Google Form for parents and/or carers to fill out if you would like to support on our upcoming trip to the Maritime Museum in a few weeks time. We have already had a number of responses so thank you for your support. Closing date for registering your interest is 20th March and we will be in contact after that to let you know if you will be required on the trip.
Visitors from the IB:
We have been lucky enough to have some visitors from the International Baccalaureate join us in LAPW this week. They were so impressed with the way that the children learn, the knowledge that they have and how they are applying their skills to new areas of learning and developing into lifelong IB learners. Thank you to all the parents who shared kind words about our school and the year 2 team with the visitors from the IB, we feel very proud to work at LAPW.
Thank you all for your continued support.
