Week beginning - Monday 9th March 2026
Take a peek at all the amazing things we've been learning this week!
It’s been an action-packed week in the classroom! From prehistoric mysteries to mastering the building blocks of maths, your little explorers have been incredibly busy. Here is a look at what we’ve been up to:
In Inquiry, we found a letter that had been delivered from a local scientist! It told us that a dinosaur had travelled in a time machine and landed in our world! We discovered a mysterious dinosaur egg and spent the week searching for clues to identify which prehistoric friend left it behind. The children have been honing their observation skills and using some very impressive "paleontologist" vocabulary.
For our phonics focus, we’ve been exploring some tricky spelling patterns and sounds. We introduced the 'le' ending, explaining to the children that while it sounds like a plain 'l', it usually appears as a "secret team" at the end of words like bubble, apple, and puddle. Alongside this, we’ve been investigating the 'o' sound—specifically when it takes on a short /u/ sound. The children were surprised to find that words like son, won, and done are spelled with an 'o' even though they sound like they belong with a 'u'!
In maths this week we have been learning our number bonds to 10! We have used 10 frames and numicon to help us find out all the ways we can add two numbers to make 10. The children have been fantastic at this and some already remember them off by heart!
To finish the week we had a fantastic time at our Easter disco and really enjoyed designing and creating our Easter bonnets!
