Week beginning - Monday 23rd February 2026
Take a peek at all the amazing things we've been learning this week!
This week, we have kick started our new inquiry, with most children across the year group showing that they are fascinated by our new learning: WWII! Our central idea and lines of inquiry link to the impact the beliefs of individuals can have on their communities, the impact of gender roles and stereotypes on the experiences of groups of people and how opinions can be shared and spread. Many children have been talking about the experiences of their great-grandparents in relation to historical conflicts and WWII. If any children choose to interview living relatives about their experiences (or the experiences of their ancestors), the notes from these conversations would be warmly welcomed in lesson time.
In maths, we have continued to investigate angles and measure. We've revised that a right angle = 90 degrees, angles on a straight line = 180 degrees and angles around a point = 360, and we are applying these facts to help solve calculations and word problems. We have then moved on to revise fractions, percentages and decimals, with excellent recall of previously learned mathmatical concepts! Similarly we have been learning how to solve challenging long division calculations too. We are flying through the curriculum and doing a superb job with it too!
6C
You have shown yourself to be a knowledgeable and thoughtful thinker this week. In maths, you have made strong links within your learning and tackled challenging strategies with confidence and resilience. Well done — keep up the fantastic effort!
6S
You have come into this inquiry with your own huge bank of knowledge on WWI, WWII and other international conflicts. You have clearly been an excellent researcher on the topic already, and are a risk-taker when you show you can make educated guesses about our new learning, based on what you already know.
6D
What a start to the module! You have asked inquisitive questions, been reflective and linked back to last module and used your knowledge to adapt how you have presented your learning.
6C
You have shown a high level of engagement in reading this week. You have discussed your ideas clearly and explained your reasoning thoughtfully when giving your answers. Great work.
6S
Sonny is a dedicated and excellent reader, who shows this through enthusiasm for his reading books and the information that he is able to share with the class.
6D
You've been reading a range of stories and sharing them so eloquently in your reading journal. Keep up the literary adventures!
