Week beginning - Monday 23rd February 2026
Take a peek at all the amazing things we've been learning this week!
It has been an exciting week in Year 5 as we launched our new central idea: Human actions may have consequences, which could impact the wider environment. The children have already begun thinking deeply about how our choices affect the world around us, and we are looking forward to exploring this further over the coming weeks.
In our inquiry learning, we have been studying life cycles. The class have learned about the key stages in the life cycles of frogs, humans and chickens, identifying processes such as growth, development and reproduction. They then compared the similarities and differences between each cycle, noticing clear patterns as well as important distinctions. It has been wonderful to see the pupils making thoughtful connections between species.
In Maths, we have been exploring the relationship between fractions and decimals, with a particular focus on tenths and hundredths. The children have been using place value knowledge to convert between fractions and decimals and explain how the two are linked. Their confidence is continuing to grow as they apply their understanding to reasoning questions.
During Reading lessons, we have focused on developing vocabulary and strengthening our inference skills. Pupils have been using context clues to understand unfamiliar words and justify their ideas with evidence from the text. It has been fantastic to see them articulating their thinking so clearly.
Well done to all of Year 5 for another week of focused learning and thoughtful discussion.
