Week beginning - Monday 23rd February 2026
Take a peek at all the amazing things we've been learning this week!
What an incredible first week we have had launching our new Inquiry! The children have officially become "Time Detectives," and their curiosity is already leading us to some fascinating places. To kick off our learning, the children arrived to find excavation sites right inside their own classrooms! They have been busy brushing away to uncover hidden treasures. We also stepped back into our local history by comparing photos of our school from the past to how it looks today—it was wonderful to see the children identify what has changed and what has stayed the same. We even traveled back to explore how cave paintings serve as visual evidence. The children have been using their "detective eyes" to imagine how the world may have looked and felt based on these ancient stone stories.
In Maths, we have been exploring length and height. We’ve been busy comparing objects in our environment to see what is longer, shorter, taller, or smaller. We even created class height charts to see how we all measure up! Perhaps you could find something to measure and compare at home.
In our phonics sessions, we have been busy with the ‘oa’ (as in oak) and ‘ow’ (as in bow) sounds. We’ve been comparing these two ways of making the same sound and spotting them in our reading.
We are using the beautiful book The Street Beneath My Feet as our guide this module, and we are so excited to see where this inquiry will take us next as we dig deeper into the layers of the Earth. On 01/04/26 you are invited to join us between 2.45 and 3.15 to be a part of our ACTION for our Inquiry. More details will follow soon as the children delve deeper into their learning.
