In reading, we are focusing on three key comprehension skills that will help students grow as thoughtful readers. First, we are learning how to identify the main idea and key details of a text, which teaches students to recognize what the story is mostly about and how the smaller details support that idea. Next, we are practicing putting events in order, an important skill that helps children understand the sequence of a story and retell it clearly. Finally, we are looking closely at the characters and setting, noticing who is in the story, where it takes place, and how those details shape what happens.
Students will practice these skills through shared stories we read together in class, as well as in their own independent reading. By applying these strategies regularly, students will strengthen their comprehension and begin to make deeper connections with the texts they read.
