In our Plants and Animals science unit, students are exploring the living world around them! The student learned about how animals bodies help them. They researched an arctic animal and wrote a non-fiction book about a polar bear, arctic fox, walrus, or harp seal. They discussed how animals help each other to survive by reading "A Team of Fish." They learned about how animals survive in nature by reading, "Go Wild!." Students compared and contrasted how insects are alike and different. Finally, they discussed how animals help people.
In Social Studies, students focused on Black history in honor of Black History Month. It allows us to understand the contributions African Americans have made to society and build a community by recognizing the struggles and achievements of Black people throughout time. Amare was Jacob Lawrence for the "History is Wax" school project honoring black excellence!
100th Day of School
Our class celebrated the 100th day of school by engaging in hands-on activities that encouraged students to think creatively and demonstrate their learning. As IB learners, students used their thinking skills and creativity to design pictures using 100 shapes and build structures with 100 linking cubes. They also used their communication skills by drawing and writing about what they would do if they had 100 of something. Working together as collaborative and reflective learners, students challenged themselves to build the tallest tower possible using 100 cups. These activities helped students explore numbers in meaningful ways while showing curiosity, problem-solving, and perseverance. It was a fun way to celebrate how much we have learned and grown over the first 100 days of school. 🎉
