In our Plants and Animals science unit, students are exploring the living world around them! The student learned about how animals bodies help them. They researched an arctic animal and wrote a non-fiction book about a polar bear, arctic fox, walrus, or harp seal. They discussed how animals help each other to survive by reading "A Team of Fish." They learned about how animals survive in nature by reading, "Go Wild!." Students compared and contrasted how insects are alike and different. Finally, they discussed how animals help people.
In Social Studies, students focused on Black history in honor of Black History Month. It allows us to understand the contributions African Americans have made to society and build a community by recognizing the struggles and achievements of Black people throughout time. Amare was Jacob Lawrence for the "History is Wax" school project honoring black excellence!
Partner Reading
Our students are practicing being Balanced during partner reading! As you can see in these photos, they are taking turns reading, listening carefully, and supporting one another.
Being balanced means managing different roles—both as a reader and a listener. Students are building their reading skills while also working on cooperation, patience, and teamwork.
We love seeing how engaged and supportive they are with their partners!
