Ms. McIntyre, Ms. Phillip, Ms. Richards, Ms. Pellerito,
Ms. Falck and Mr. Leacraft
In our Plants and Animals science unit, students are exploring the living world around them! The student learned about biomimicry by exploring how people can get ideas from plants and animals to solve problems. Students observed different animal and plant features and discussed how these features help them survive. The students then connected these ideas to real-world inventions, learning how scientists and engineers use nature to inspire new designs and solutions.
In our Inquiry into Time, Continuity and Change, first graders learned to compare and contrast life long ago and life today. Through stories, pictures, and class discussions, students explored how people lived, worked, and played in the past. They examined changes in homes, transportation, jobs, and technology, and discussed how some things have changed over time while others have stayed the same. Students practiced identifying similarities and differences to better understand how life has evolved.
First Grade Trip to the NY Aquarium
During our field trip to the aquarium, we were inquirers as we explored and learned all about sharks. We observed sharks up close and examined their teeth and fins, which helped us understand how their physical features support their survival. As knowledgeable learners, we discovered what sharks do, where they live, and why they are important to ocean ecosystems. This experience helped us make real-world connections to our unit of inquiry and deepened our understanding of how living things interact with their environment.
