In our Plants and Animals science unit, students are exploring the living world around them! They are learning how plants and animals grow, what they need to survive, and how they are similar and different. Through hands-on activities, observations, and discussions, students are building curiosity and a deeper understanding of the natural world.
In our Inquiry into Civic Participation, first graders are learning what it means to be a responsible and caring member of a community. Students are exploring how they can help others, follow rules, and make positive choices at school and beyond. Through stories, discussions, and real-life examples, they are discovering that their voices and actions matter in making their classroom and community a better place for everyone.
ELA: Inquiry into How do plants grow?
In our Wonders reading unit, students explored the essential question “How do plants grow and change?” Through a variety of texts, we learned about what plants need to live and how they grow over time. Students especially enjoyed the story The Big Yuca Plant, where they participated in a Readers Theater activity. By taking on different roles, students had the opportunity to explore the concepts of characters and setting in a fun and engaging way. Acting out the story helped bring the text to life and supported students’ understanding of how stories work while building confidence and expression as readers.
