With the transition to remote learning in mid-March, our Genius Project program adapted to focus on students and families celebrating the many ways we learn everyday. Instead of a scaffolded in-school project for fourth and fifth grade students, elementary school families were encouraged to create visual presentations celebrating their interests and the unique ways families work and learn together.

Families join in the fun of STEM exploration with stations and activities led by our high school STEM Pathways students.
During Computer Science Week and throughout December we explored Hour of Code projects on Code.org, coded our Sphero Robots (thanks PTO and Scholastic!), and learned about block coding through the Scratch website and the Kodable and CodeSpark applications.
In the fall, primary students read the "If I Built" series by Chris Van Dusen and then designed and built our own cars and schools!
During Engineering Week we explored paper engineering and created our own Pop-Up cards. Our students are so creative! Such amazing designs!
Tiny T. Rex and the Impossible Hug by Jonathan Stutzman and illustrated by Jay Fleck has won the vote for our 2020 Oley Valley Lynx Award!
Thanks to generous donations and support from our Oley Valley community, every family at OVES received a copy of the book Wishtree by Katherine Applegate. As part of the One School, One Book program OVES celebrated family literacy by reading the book together throughout the month of February and enjoyed many school-wide contests and activities including making and naming our own Wishtree! The coin drive donation even allowed One Tree Planted to plant 345 trees in Australia!
