Religious Education plays a central role in the life of Saint Peter the Apostle High School. Rooted in the Gospel values of Love, Compassion and Hope, our department supports the spiritual, moral and personal development of all young people.
We offer a broad and inclusive curriculum that encourages young people to explore their own beliefs and gain insight into the beliefs and values of others, while reflecting on life’s big questions and growing in understanding of themselves and the wider world. In addition, young people are given rich opportunities to live out their faith through experiences such as retreats, charity work, liturgical celebrations and the Caritas Award for senior pupils.
Our School Chaplain, Father Paddy Boyle, celebrates Mass every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at 8:30am in our school oratory, offering regular opportunities for prayer and worship within the school community. Working closely with Father Boyle and our local parishes, we strive to ensure that young people are part of a living and active faith community. Through these experiences, we aim to nurture thoughtful, compassionate young people who are confident in their beliefs and committed to making a positive difference in the world.

It has been a busy and fun-filled year for the RE Department who have led and supported a wide range of faith-based and community events that reflect our school’s values in action.
Our S6 Caritas pupils played a vital role in leading and supporting many of our activities this year. They worked with local primary schools, supported younger learners through World Book Day events and attended an overnight retreat to deepen their faith. Their leadership, kindness and initiative have been a true credit to our school.
The celebration of Mass is central to the spiritual life of our school. Throughout the year, pupils had the opportunity to take part in school-wide liturgies, especially on Holy Days of Obligation, where we gathered as a community to reflect, pray and celebrate our faith together.
Our school community also came together to support a number of important causes this year:
Pupils across S3 - S6 showed incredible generosity and teamwork in fundraising for St Margaret’s Hospice, taking part in 6 Christmas Hospice Bus fundraising nights throughout the month of December. Events such as the S6 Pyjama Day also contributed, showing our school’s ongoing commitment to this local cause.
SCIAF Lenten Campaign: During Lent, the school community came together to raise money for SCIAF through a variety of events, including staff and pupil raffles, the Easter Tombola and our S1 Kindness Challenge, which promoted small acts of compassion across our school. We were also fortunate to welcome a guest speaker from SCIAF, who delivered inspiring talks and workshops to all year groups, helping pupils learn more about SCIAF's work around the world.
Christmas Community Event: A particular highlight was our Christmas Community Afternoon, where people from our local area were welcomed into our school for afternoon tea, bingo, live pupil music and dancing performances - creating a fun and memorable event for all.
Other highlights included a Welcome Breakfast for new S1s, a festive Staff Door Decorating Competition during Advent and regular opportunities for prayer and reflection across the year.
