In S4, the experience of S1 to S3 is used as the foundation for learning about about Computing Science. In S4, completion of practical outcomes and coursework tasks demonstrates capability at National 4 or National 5 level. The final exam assesses the ability of pupils to discuss and write code as well as explaining technology.

National 4 does not have an end-of-year exam.
The National 5 exam is out of 80 marks, with the assignment worth 40 marks.
In S5, Higher Computing takes the knowledge of Computing gained in S4 to the next level, introducing learners to an advanced range of computational processes and thinking, and develops a rigorous approach to the design and development process across a variety of contemporary contexts. Pupils complete a coursework task that demonstrates their ability in programming and problem solving.

This National Progression Award (NPA) provides an overview of the esports industry with a focus on game performance and event management. It develops knowledge and understanding of esports and prepares learners for further studies in this field.

The Advanced Higher Computing Science course builds on the knowledge, understanding and practical skills developed by learners in the Higher Computing Science course.
