SEPO AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM
"We are all stars and we shine together"
MONDAY
WEDNESDAY
FRIDAY
4:00PM - 7:00PM
In partnership with SEPO, we provide a welcoming after-school program for students from refugee and immigrant backgrounds. Our program creates a safe and inclusive space where students feel supported, connected, and encouraged to grow. We offer academic tutoring in literacy, math, science, and social studies to help students build confidence and succeed in school. Academic support is held on Mondays and Wednesdays, while Enrichment Fridays focus on hands-on learning, creativity, and fun.

ACADEMIC TUTORING
Mentors provide individualized support by helping students complete homework, catch up on missed work, and successfully complete projects.
Students in the same grade are encouraged to work together on shared assignments, building collaboration and peer support.
Students are supported by their peers, with mentors providing additional guidance as needed.
By welcoming students immediately after school, we support focus and learning by providing dinner and snacks, ensuring students are nourished and ready to engage. This time also allows students to socialize, build relationships, and connect with peers who share similar experiences.
GIVING BACK TO THE COMMUNITY
On Fridays when school is not in session, students engage in field trips and community service opportunities that promote exploration, curiosity, and real-world learning beyond the classroom.
Students actively contribute to their community by preparing packed lunch bags with sandwiches, chips, and fresh fruit, which are delivered to the Hope Fridge in Oshkosh to help address food insecurity.

EATING AROUND THE WORLD
Philippines Flag
Students had the opportunity to experience Filipino cuisine during a special dinner generously prepared by volunteers Nora and her husband, Shaun. Nora shared her personal story of coming to the United States and spoke about the importance of ensuring everyone is fed and treating others with love and care within her culture. The meal featured traditional dishes such as chicken adobo, pancit (rice noodles), and jasmine rice, creating a meaningful cultural and community-centered experience for students.
SEPO’s Director, Mr. Mushe, shared a comforting meal inspired by his upbringing in Zambia, featuring beef stew, village chicken, and fufu. Students were especially excited to try the fufu, which quickly became a favorite among them.

The experience created space for students to share their cultural roots, eat together by hand, and connect as a community. For some, the dishes were new; for others, they were familiar foods enjoyed at home with their families.
