Explanation
The task was to create a bio-poem on a character from The Great Gatsby, the novel we have been reading throughout the marking period in preparation for the AP exam. A bio-poem is a poem about a person or character's prominent characteristics.
The objective of the assignment was to solidify our understanding on one of the character we have explored throughout the marking period.
Throughout the unit we have explored different characters from different novels and learned to analyze each character to create a deeper understanding about major characters and overall themes. Through this assignment we continue to practice character analysis but in a different way, in a biopoem.
A bio-poem is not meant to be complicated, a few words suffice. By completing the assignment I learned how to keep relevant information concise.
Reflection
The assignment showcases my ability to break down a character and develop a concise poem about the character.
One of the prominent themes in the course was character analysis. During class discussions we looked into characters' including their actions, descriptions, and perspectives. This assignment is an extension of what we have been doing throughout this course, character analysis.
I appreciated this assignment because I was introduced to the concept of bio-poems. I have never written a bio-poem. I am also not very good at poetry but I appreciated the simplicity of developing a bio-poem.
This assignment connects to the larger world as it brings into practice a very important skill that will be useful for future papers. When writing papers it is important to be able to analyze and on some occasions it is important to provide a brief description on findings.
