Explanation
The task for this assignment was to create a literary seismograph, a technique used for close reading. First draw a triangle on the side that goes up we had to write a discussion worthy quote from the text in this case it was, The Lifeguard. On the side that goes down we had to write inferences, commentary, analysis, connections, and thoughtful questions based on the quote. On the bottom of the triangle we had to label the technique observed in the quote (imagery, metaphor, indirect characterization, etc.). Four triangles had to be drawn, each triangle differed in size to emphasize some quotes being more informative that others.
The objective of the assignment is to look further into the passage, The Lifeguard. By analyzing the passage we gain more insight into the story and all the literary techniques as the storyline was developed.
