Marking Period 1:
In this assignment, we had to respond to the following questions thoroughly using formal language and grammar. This assignment allowed us to brainstorm ideas from the text and it provided us an idea of what would happen next. However, I could've done this assignment better by adding more ideas and analysing more. These questions were provided to us when we finished reading the book, The Kite Runner. I enjoyed doing this assignment because it gave me an opportunity to reflect on the things we learned. For instance, the setting in Afghanistan, the way two friends affect their relationship due to their differences (one being Pashtun and the other being Hazara).
For this assignment, we had the chance to work with other people and choose one of themes that was presented throughout the book, The Kite Runner. The themes that were represented in the book were betrayal, guilt, atonement, redemption, forgiveness, social hierarchy, power vs. privilege, and injustice. Once we choose one of the themes, we had to create a presentation that illustrates how setting, characterization, or word choice build the theme chosen. Through completing this assignment, I learned the way social hierarchy affects the characters Amir and Hassan by creating a social division suggesting that even if they were close society ruins it for them. I enjoyed doing this assignment because I had the chance to share my ideas with my partners and classmates.
In this assignment, we had the chance to work in groups to create a presentation, each group was given a chapter from the book, Sing Unburied Sing, to present. Our group was given chapter 7 which was Lennie's part (Jojo's mother). In our presentation, we had to write 3 quotes, giving context of the quote, and create 3 questions that would lead to a class discussion. This assignment challenged me to become creative with the question I was coming up for our discussion in order to make it engaging. If I had to complete this assignment again, I would improve it by finding more quotes that are discussion worthy and creating more better questions.
For this authentic assignment, we had to create a journal of discussion-worthy quotes from Sing Unburied Sing, from chapter 2-8. Each time we read a chapter we would write two quotes, write what it means, and why we chose it. This assignment showcases my strength by demonstrating my understanding and close reading skills. I really appreciated the assignment because it allowed me to interpret the chapter more and understand it better.
