Marking Period 1:
During this assignment, we had to choose an innovation from between 650-1450. We had to explain on how the innovation we chose changed the ancient world and how it's still used today. We had to create a two page paper that highlights an innovation created in the past that is still relevant today. I really enjoyed doing this assignment because I had the chance to learn about the innovation of the compass. During the ancient world it was used as a religious tool.
In this assignment, we had to choose two poets and read their works. We had to discuss with our group the meaning of the poetry and what the author was trying to tell us. I chose Rabia al-Adawiyya and Jalaluddin Rumi because they had a great appealing poems. In assignment I was struggling trying to understand the meaning of the poems of the two poets. They had a strong deep meaning that I quite couldn't understand. So, I had to break it down and try to reread it to understand it.
Marking Period 2:
This assignment was a test grade assignment. We had to gather information and decided if migration was a good or bad thing. We had to decide whether we support global migration or not. Then we have to back up our claim by describing good things and bad things about migration. In this test, I learned good things about migration which are the workers and population, while bad things are uses more resources and it’s dangerous for the migrants. However, I could've done better on the research and writing more.
This assignment counted as an Authentic Assessment. We had to decide if schools in New Jersey are segregated. If not we had to explain why. We also had to discuss whether parents and children should have a choice in where they attend school. I did really good on this assignment and I enjoyed researching this topic, it demonstrated my understanding of this topic and my skills. The assignments connects to the community because it's sparking attention to the topic of racism and economic segregation.
Marking Period 3:
In this assignment, we had to gather information and research four philosophers. The information I had to gather were their ideals, quotes to support it, and finding historical events where this came true. The objective of this assignment was to acquire more knowledge and understanding of researching certain topics. In other words, this was a way to get us ready for college and adapting to researching different topics. Not only that but helped us determine if a certain sources was reliable. This assignment showcases my strength by familiarizing myself with researching certain topics and techniques.
The objective of this assignment was to debate both sides of child labor (pro & con). To complete this assignment, first I had to read articles in order to prepare myself for the debate. Then we had to come together with our group members to discuss the things we would argue. And finally, we gathered all our information to one document. Through completing this assignment I learned to always have evidence to support any claim stated. Not only that, but also have an idea of what the other side might say in order to rebuttal it. Finally, this assignment challenged me to argue certain points of child labor and getting myself out of my comfortable zone.
For this assignment our teacher assigned us a law day contest assignment. We had three options to choose from which were drawing, writing, and a video. Therefore, I chose the art contest I had to illustrate the way society would look if citizens did not have the right to vote. Through the usage of art, I tried to make the government the giant person and the smaller people the citizens. In others words, it illustrated the government controlling the people, them not having the right to vote which caused chaos. I enjoyed and appreciated doing this assignment because it was a way to show my creative side.
Marking Period 4:
The objective of this assignment was to research a nation from Africa that we choose with our group. My group members and I choose the nation Angola, we had to research the before and after colonization. We had to elaborate on the effects of colonization based on the government, way of life, and the way imperialism changed the nation. While completing this project I learned Angola was known for their agriculutral producers. I enjoyed doing this assignment because it was a way to communicate and work with other people. Not only that but, they helped me whenever I needed it.
For this project we were tasked to create a project on the Industrial Revolution. We had to choose an industrial revolution technology to research about. We had 6 options; we could've made a blueprint, photo gallery, newspaper, advertisement, or written about it. I choose a typewriter timeline, I had to show the progression over time. The mistake I did in this assignment was doing it at the last minute. If I had to complete this assignment again, I would improve it by doing it on time and using my time wisely.
This assignment counted as a quiz grade. We had to answer questions with multiple sentences. Certain question asked for sources, quotes, and examples to answer the question. The objective of this assignment was to improve our researching skills and analyzIng questions. Based on our research, we had to learn more about Gandhi and his impacts on the world. He fought for nonviolence protests and influenced the civil disobedience movements.
