Google Classroom
To join the Google Classroom site: go to classroom.google.com and click the “+” sign in the top right corner of the page. Then, type in the code (check your email for the code). I will post all announcements, materials, and assignments in Google Classroom. You will submit all work into Google Classroom unless noted otherwise during class.
Classroom Philosophy
1. I believe that each student should have access to an equitable and rigorous curriculum reflecting their academic needs and abilities.
2. All students deserve to feel safe in the classroom and the school. I will support a conducive learning environment centered on compassion, respect, and empathy.
3. I expect each student to implement their best academic practices. This includes submitting assignments by established deadlines, reading the required materials, participating in discussions, and coming prepared to class.
Classroom Expectations:
These are specified in detail in a separate document on Google Classroom and will be sent home electronically.
Grading and Assignment Expectations:
Assignments will include work inside and outside of class. Points will be given for daily reading, participation, tests, quizzes, projects, journals, and any other written work.
Grading Scale:
5 = 100% - 90% A
4 = 89% - 80% B
3 = 79% - 70% C
2 = 69% - 59.5 D
1 = 59.4% - 0% F
Grading is weighted as follows:
Summative Assessments: 60%
Formative Assessments: 40%
Late work:
Work is due on the assigned due-date, unless the student requests extended deadlines with a valid excuse. For Summative Assignments, each day the assignment is missing will result in losing a letter grade or full points for that assignment. After the unit is completed, Formative Assignments for that unit will not be accepted.
If there is something preventing you from submitting or completing any assignments, contact me and we can discuss accommodations.
Re-do work:
All students are invited to revise their completed assignments. Students must conference with me and discuss specific feedback before re-submitting their work.
Plagiarism
Please read OPRF’s Academic Honesty Policy in the Student Handbook/Planner. For the purpose of this class, plagiarism is defined as using someone else's words OR ideas and presenting them as your own. This includes any use of Chat GPT or any other AI source with your work. In essence: just don’t plagiarize. For one, you will have to face serious consequences. And two, neither of us can marvel at your authentic work.
All electronic assessments must be fully typed in the instructor-provided document (for example, Google Doc assigned from Google Classroom), or the work will be considered in violation of academic honesty protocol.
