Make sure you join your Google Classroom!
While this site provides an overview of course expectations and previews course material, Google Classroom is the central hub for specific daily assignments. You can expect to see announcements, assignments, and materials posted on the main stream and classwork feed regularly.
Assessments and Grading
All class activities and assessments help us as teachers understand how students are growing and meeting standards. They also provide us with important information about how to adjust and reteach as we move forward with each new learning cycle. All course work falls into one of two categories: Formative or Summative Assessments.
Formative assessments - the practice (40% of grade): Formative assignments include daily classwork or homework; they guide students through learning and refining targeted skills. They are used to monitor student learning and provide ongoing feedback. Formative assessments can also help students identify their own strengths and weaknesses and assess their own growth. They are key to the learning process and necessary to succeed on the summative assessments.
Summative assessments - the performance (60% of grade): Summative assignments include essays and reading assessments that are used to evaluate student learning at the end of an instructional unit. After practicing a particular set of skills through formative assessment, students are asked to perform these skills via a summative assessment to determine their growth in these areas.
Turning in Work
Missed Class: In the event of an absence, students are responsible for checking Google Classroom to find what they have missed and access important documents.
Late Work: If a student falls behind on formative or summative assignments, they should reach out to their teacher as soon as possible to discuss extended deadlines and a plan to get back on track. When turning in late work, students should email their teacher to let them know. We do not automatically receive notifications if something is turned in late, so we won't know unless you tell us.
Grade Tracking: Students are responsible for checking their grades regularly on SKYWARD (linked below). They are encouraged to set up a conference during office hours with any concerns.
