Introducing a New Unit!
A teacher candidate implements a lesson to a group of Grade 3 students who are typically an engaged group. The presentation via powerpoint contains many images and large amounts of text. The lesson implementation is largely lecture-based with a few questions sprinkled throughout and attended to by only a few of the Grade 3 students. After 40 minutes, most of the students are largely disengaged, have been off-task quietly, and bored.
By engaging in the analysis of this Ted-Viv vignette, teacher candidates will:
Identify elements of the lesson implementation that reflect sound and developmentally-appropriate instructional practices;
Apply sound pedagogical practices to enhance lesson implementation to support student learning;
Describe how lessons might include students’ different capabilities and preferences for learning strategies
