Boy with Autism
A student teacher is enjoying his work with a boy with autism in his Grade 5 practicum placement. He is disturbed by the teacher’s lack of engagement with the student and her disregard for the accommodations listed in his Individual Education Plan. This causes him to consider how he would work with such a student if he were the classroom teacher. An altercation involving the student, teacher and educational assistant prompts him to wonder if he should report his concerns to the school principal.
