Culminating Calamity
A teacher candidate, in her final practicum placement, is beginning to feel the strain of taking on full responsibility for planning and teaching her Grade 5 students. After not being able to fully plan the lesson for a culminating task activity, she felt he would be able to rely on her previous lessons to implement this art-based activity. She learns the hard way that being organized ahead of time via the lesson plan could prevent inappropriate student behaviours.
By engaging in the analysis of this Ted-Viv vignette, teacher candidates will:
Identify general components that contribute to effective classroom management
Distinguish elements of the instructional sequence that contributed to the inappropriate student behaviour
Apply alternative strategies to the instructional sequence to prevent inappropriate student behaviour
Describe appropriate strategies to respond to student inappropriate behaviour
