COURSE OVERVIEW
This course offers student-athletes a valuable opportunity to enhance their physical conditioning through practical training. This includes tailored training programs specifically designed for the student-athlete and their sporting endeavours, as well as different forms of cardiovascular training.
The course also provides a comprehensive educational experience, including training methods, principles of training, responses to exercise, and fitness testing.
Ultimately, the course aims to empower student-athletes with the necessary tools to optimise their athletic performance while fostering a deeper appreciation for the science and principles behind effective training methods.
COURSE OUTCOME
In this hands-on course, you’ll explore how the body moves and responds to exercise. You will study anatomy and training principles while mastering gym equipment and fitness testing. By the end of the semester, you will apply these skills to design and complete your own personalised eight-week training program. This project records your progress and gives you a chance to reflect on your fitness.
REAL WORLD APPLICATION:
By designing and executing an eight-week program, you move from learning theory to practising the exact skills used by personal trainers, sports scientists, and physical therapists. You will leave the course with the ability to analyse physical data, learn technical gym movements, and create effective training plans that drive real results.
COURSE PREREQUISITES:
None
Students will demonstrate grit, tenacity, perseverance, adaptability, and resilience as they work through physical challenges.
Students will be required to reflect upon their own physical fitness, the requirements of their sport and areas in need of development to improve their sporting performance. This will require a level of criticality.
